Five year hull warranty. John Driscoll (the Royal Yachting Association's Sailing Coach writes: "The Topper dinghy has a unique place in the world of sailing instruction. It has made a greater contribution to the development of teaching techniques than any other boat in the last ten years, and its role is never likely to be challenged by any other type of dinghy." The Topper can be rigged, sailed, and righted by a child and is a IYRU registered class boat for single handed racing. It can accommodate two persons but is designed to be sailed as a single hander. Portsmouth number 1288. The Topper is fully equipped with a 2 pc. anodized aluminum mast, boom, dacron sail, kick-up rudder, toe-straps and comes ready to sail. The Topper is a legend whichever way you look
at it. Over the last ten years the Topper has been the best selling boat
in the UK, and with numbers now over 50,000 the Topper ranks as the top Bermudan
rigged twelve footer. During its short history Topper has also become the
top racing class of its type in the UK and because of its world wide racing
pedigree has now been acclaimed by the top authority in sailing, the
International Sailing Federation (formerly IYRU), and given full International
Status, to become one of the few full International Classes.![]()

5 YEAR WARRANTY - HIGH RESALE VALUES These testimonials to the Topper's pedigree and success are also relevant to the many family owners who can relax in the clear knowledge that they have made a sound investment in the Topper. As a sparkling fun boat for people of all ages and abilities, one up or two up, it is a proven quantity. It is backed up with the only 5 year hull warranty we know of. Furthermore, the very high demand for Toppers of all ages, guarantees high second hand prices and a very low cost of ownership.
UNIQUE CONSTRUCTION The Topper's unique appeal and its proven success are linked closely to the investment made in the Topper's unique Injection Moulding tool. Investment is a good guide to quality. Over 1,000,000 British Pounds were invested in the production of the tool. It is a closed mould. This means that the two halves are brought together and clamped. Molten Propathene polypropylene is then injected under pressure (up to 3000 tons) into the mould. This tool design and process guarantees that every hull and deck is uniform and that each component is identically matched in weight, shape and structure. The unique Topper process gives a high quality and efficient strength to weight ratio, making the Topper the only 'lightweight' moulded boat.

Do not confuse the Topper with rotomoulded boats. These mouldings come from tools with a fraction of the investment, 3% to be exact. The moulds for rotommoulded boats are not closed moulds, and the plastic is not pressure injected. The structure is not as closely controlled and what is really important, boats are 50% heavier to achieve the necessary strength from this process. You get what you pay for and a rotomoulded boat is a utilitarian product with a relatively low grade finish in relation to an injection moulded equivalent. A rotomoulded product is less likely to look as good after a few years of usage. And as these boats are not used for racing they do not have the same resale demand to guarantee good future values.
CAR TOPPING & WEIGHT are important factors in the choice of a racing or family boat. Anything over 94 lbs. is very heavy to lift on or off a car. The Topper is the only boat that fills the bill. The Topper section is a constant thickness throughout and is naturally buoyant. It is much thicker than conventional fibreglass and stronger than roto moulded sections. A hull can be dropped or involved in a collision without damage. It can be scratched without breaking it's gelcoat. The material is naturally buoyant and does not absorb water. The Topper would float even without the additional moulded foam buoyancy which is installed between hull and deck. Injection moulded polypropylene is also lighter and less dense than fiberglass and significantly lighter than roto-moulded designs. This is a great asset when handling the hull ashore or for car-topping. It also makes sailing far more exciting because the boat requires less sail area to make it plane, as compared to other sailboats of a similar size.

The qualities that make up a really great dinghy must include lightness, high load bearing, high impact resistance, high environmental resistance, high fatigue resistance, chip and or splinter resistance. These qualities mean "little or no maintenance". You can leave a Topper outside under the snow in the winter or on the beach in the summer. You can lift it, car-top it, collide it, capsize it, and the Topper will take it. You can lean it on its side against the garage wall where it takes up little storage space.
Goodies include the following: a 2 pc. mast for ease of transport which packs neatly within the boat's length ...the upper mast is sealed for buoyancy; the boom fitting is an oarlock, allowing the mast to be rotated when reefing the sail; a mastgate system which permits a child to raise the mast from a horizontal position; a plastic daggerboard encased in inflated bags to reduce damage and a 3 position kick-up rudder. If the Topper capsizes, it's beam is narrow enough for a child or small adult to climb onto the daggerboard - and the Topper is light enough to come up easily. A midships bailer helps keep the boat dry and she can be sailed one up or two up....also an optional jib is available (though not allowed for racing). The accolades just go on and on. Now take a look at the U-Tube videos below and watch the fun on the water.
